Finding suitable accommodation

How can I find suitable accommodation?

There are two ways of going about it:

Search by arrival and departure date

Fill in on the home page the arrival and the departure date and the number of persons who will be accompanying you.

You can engage search filters:

type of accommodation

neighbourhood

smoking or non-smoking

The search result will display all the accommodations available, providing a photograph of each accommodation. By clicking the photograph you will come to that specific accommodation page.

Search via the list ‘all accommodations’

When you haven’t yet searched by availability you can view all the accommodations on the home page.

When on this list you have found a suitable accommodation, then fill in on the page of that accommodation all the dates required in the search area and click on the magnifying glass.

The button ‘book now’ will appear, that is at least if the accommodation is available.
Otherwise you will be referred to accommodations that are available, or you may fill in alternative dates.

What types of accommodation are there?

Apartment

An apartment is a unit of accommodation with more than one room and its own kitchen and bathroom and it has its own separate entrance.

Houseboat

A houseboat is a floating home.

Studio

A studio is a unit of accommodation with only one room; the bedroom also serves as living room. It has its own kitchen and bathroom and its own separate entrance.

Room

By room is meant: a guestroom that is part of your own home. You may include with it a separate bathroom for your guests and/or their own kitchen. Sometimes however you will simply share your own bathroom and/or kitchen with the guests. Sometimes a room may have its own street entrance.
Rooms may be offered with or without breakfast.

Room on a boat

A room on a boat is a guestroom that forms part of the boat on which you live. You may include with it a separate bathroom for your guests and/or their own kitchen. Sometimes however you will simply share your own bathroom and/or kitchen with the guests. Sometimes a room may have its own street entrance.
Rooms may be offered with or without breakfast.

When you search the site for ‘room’ or ‘houseboat’, ‘room on a boat’ will appear in the result for both searches.

Studio on a boat

A unit of accommodation is called a studio on a boat when it is a section of a boat, has its own separate entrance, its own bathroom and kitchen and one room that is furnished as both living room and bedroom.

When you search the site for ‘studio’ or ‘houseboat’, ‘studio on a boat’ will appear in the result for both searches.

How will I know if a particular accommodation is available?

An accommodation is available when it appears in your search results that you obtained when you searched by arrival and departure date.
You may reserve that accommodation immediately.

You will also find for every accommodation a calendar, which will provide available and booked dates.

How will I know exactly where the accommodation is located?

On the accommodation page the street name will be given.

Above the first photograph you will find ‘type of accommodation’,location number and then the street name.

On that same page you will see a Google map with a dot at the location.

Are children welcome?

If you have said that you will be coming with young children, the accommodations with this symbol will not appear in the search result.

What do I pay for an accompanying child?

Children younger than 3 years: no charge.
Children of 3 and 4 years old: € 20 per night, when accompanied by only one adult: the first child is free.
For children older than 4 years there is no reduction.

Can I bring domestic animals?

In general no, but there are a few accommodation units where you may.

You will see at each accommodation if it allowed or not.
You will recognize those accommodations by this symbol:
geen-huisdieren
When you see this, you can bring your pet.

How far in advance may I make a reservation?

You may reserve for up to one year in advance. The agenda advances one day per day.

What happens if I want to make a reservation starting today or tomorrow?

You can place an inquiry on the website.
We shall then contact you immediately.

It is not certain whether the owner of the accommodation can ensure at such short notice that the accommodation will be ready and that someone will be there to receive you upon arrival.

We shall however do our absolute best to arrange it for you!

How do I know that the accommodation is safe?

Is what CityMundo offers legal?

Yes, what we offer is legal.

We deal only with private residences and not with houses that have been removed from residential occupancy. That means that there is a permanent occupant in every residence that we offer and that that occupant is absent temporarily when the residence is rented, or that part of the residence is to be rented as b&b or studio.

In Amsterdam the housing market suffers from scarcity, people have to remain for lengthy periods on waiting lists before they can find accommodation. We are very much opposed to homes being removed from residential occupancy because they are being rented fulltime by tourists.

Are hosts screened?

We know all of the hosts personally because we visit every accommodation before offering it. As intermediary we maintain of course regular contact.

What about fire safety?

All of the accommodations are the private residences of the persons offering them for rent. The accommodation is either the private residence of the person offering it or an independent part of that residence.

Before offering an accommodation, we inform the host on fire safety. We advise him/her in this connection to place smoke alarms and fire extinguishers and to indicate evacuation routes.

Accommodation is Amsterdam is generally speaking safe.

Are all Amsterdam neighbourhoods safe?

Yes, all neighbourhoods are safe, even the red light district. Ladies are also quite safe outside in the evenings.
Be on your guard however for pickpockets, just as in any other big city. Particularly on public transport and in busy shopping streets they will seize their opportunity.
