Theater in Amsterdam
Theater Amsterdam: There are in Amsterdam a large number of theatre venues. An overview of current shows in the city is provided weekly by the cultural organization Uitburo Amsterdam on their website. They also distribute a free magazine with a cultural agenda (the ‘Uitkrant’) at several locations throughout the city (also featuring music, dance, exhibitions, lectures and so forth).
This page will list a couple of theatres worth seeing.
The monumental Stadsschouwburg (‘city theatre’) at Leidseplein is often considered to be Holland’s most important theatre, showing a large number of diverse theatre shows. It is home to the Amsterdam theatre group Toneelgroep Amsterdam with its own productions, but also hosts a lot of other national and international shows.

The famous Royal Theatre Carré was originally built as a circus theatre, beautifully located next to the river Amstel. Its programming consists of circuses, musicals, cabaret, theatre, dance, concerts and much, much more. Please refer to the website of Carré; for information on the show current playing.

The open-air theatre in the Vondelpark offers free-of-charge shows throughout the summer (June through August), ranging from theatre and dance to music and cabaret. You can watch a show from a seat on one of the stands or simply enjoy it while picnicking on the grass in the park. You can check the program on openluchttheater.nl, but unfortunately this site is only available in Dutch. The open-air theatre is located near the large fountain in the Vondelpark, close to the park entrance at Van Eeghenstraat.
